As technology advances, the need for individuals to interpret and analyze digital data will rise. To meet this demand there are many different types of jobs in the data science field. Let’s take a look at a few of them.

Statistician: This job covers the basics of data science because it’s all about looking at the numbers and finding solutions. A few responsibilities of a statistician include hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, analysis of variance, data visualization, and quantitative research.

Data Engineer: In this role, engineers help to find trends in different data sets and creating algorithms. By crunching these numbers data engineers can help those in enterprise understand raw data. According to CIO, “Data engineers are tasked with managing and organizing data, while also keeping an eye out for trends or inconsistencies that will impact business goals.” In this position, you’ll need technical skills and communication skills to help organization leaders understand the big picture.

Machine Learning Scientist: As more computers are outfitted with artificial intelligence, we will need more machine learning scientists. The artificial intelligence in today’s computers are programmed for adaptive learning. This means that over time they can be trained to make decisions when certain inputs are given. A machine learning scientist is responsible for developing the algorithms used in this case.

Actuarial Scientist: Professionals in the actuarial science field are responsible for predicting market conditions and finding out future income, revenue, and profits or losses. All of the predictions are derived from mathematical algorithms. If you want to be an actuarial scientist you’ll have to take (and pass) required exams before you can enter the workforce. As an actuarial, you’ll want to have a good knowledge of areas like probability, statistics, finance, economics, and much more.

Software Programming Analyst: In this role, you’ll need to be skilled in programming languages like Python, Apache Hive, Pig, etc. According to Chron, “The duties of a programmer analyst or system analyst include designing technology solutions for organizations and helping to put those systems into place.” The analyst will design programs that best fit the needs of the company or organization.
